Régiment d'Autos-Mitrailleuses (Armoured Car Regiment) 1940
The Armored Car Regiment was a nover developement in the French military thinking. Intended to perform reconeisance in force, it was equipped with both an armored car regiment for high speed road scouting and a cavalery tank company for more off road tasks. Both were supported with a motorcycle squadron which gave infantry support and allowed for more varied action when looking for the enemy. The high combat training and morale made these units seem effective but the one major shortage was the lack of radio's and it sevearly hampered these units when faced with rampaging German armored spearheads. Organized into either light or heavy cavalery divisions which also featured a mechanized regiment, dragoon, cavalery and an artillery regiment, these performed adequately and only the rarity of these divisions and inadequate coordination and control caused these to perform poorly.
